If you’d told me, at the outset of INLE, that we’d have two separate If You Haven’t Already Heard entries on DJ groupings, I’d . . . well . . . I might have believed you. Anyway, following up on our The Hood Internet mentions awhile ago (who, b.t.dub., have a new mixtape out that is incrediawesome available here), we’re onto the next one.
N.A.S.A. are Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon. The former is American, the latter Brazilian. They took their respective continents of origin to arrive at their collective nombre (N-A-S-A). These two released their first album, The Spirit of Apollo, almost 18 months ago. Ooops! We had to time travel backward to that one after catching their remix album, The Big Bang, earlier this summer (plus we especially like their inclusion of spacey-type things ala our “mothership”).
What gave us immediate pause (in a “wait one f’n second, why didn’t we know about this sooner?” way) was the frightening number and strength of those featured on the album. Let’s highlight, shall we? David Byrne, Tom Waits, Chuck D, RZA, Method Man, KRS-One, Karen O (of Yeah Yeah Yeahs fame), Kanye West, ODB, George Clinton, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, The Cool Kids, Ghostface Killah, Scarface and more. Holy. Hell.
We strongly suggest taking a listen below. If you’re a halfsy-halves part fan of dance music and/or hip-hop, this seems like a can’t miss. If you’re a fan of only one of those, you’ll probably find enough to make you move in a way that is meaningful. Here’s a few to sample. N.A.S.A. . . . if you haven’t already heard.
